South Atlantic Conference
ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second consecutive week a Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball player has been named South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Redshirt senior guard Devin Whitfield collected his third SAC Player of the Week accolade and first of 2020-21 after two scorching shooting performances last week, the league announced Monday morning.
After missing the Railsplitters’ season opener and playing a limited role in LMU’s road win at Coker back on Nov. 24, Whitfield has been unstoppable. He has scored over 20 points in three-straight outings, averaging 26.5 points on a remarkable 63.3 percent shooting clip last week in a pair of Railsplitter victories.
Helping lead LMU to its first undefeated calendar year in program history, the 6-foot-5 wing scored a season-high 32 points with four three pointers on 13-for-20 shooting during the Railsplitters’ 109-62 non-conference blowout of Campbellsville University Harrisburg this past Saturday. That performance came on the heels of 21 points and 6-for-10 shooting in LMU’s 109-76 SAC road rout of Catawba last Wednesday afternoon. The preseason All-American went a perfect 7-for-7 at the line in the two wins and connected on 50 percent of his three-point attempts (8-of-16). Whitfield also grabbed a trio of rebounds and handed out three assists.
The Lipscomb, Ala. (McAdory HS), native was tabbed SAC Player of the Week twice last season, picking up the weekly conference honor on Nov. 25, 2019, and Feb. 10, 2020.
