BRISTOL, Tenn. – Defending Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball Championship champions, King University was selected first in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll. The Tornado received 139 points and nine first-place votes.
King received nine of the possible 12 first-place votes in the 2021 preseason poll. Conference runner-up in 2020, North Greenville University is picked second with 133 points and three first-place votes. Emmanuel College was picked third and first-year Conference Carolinas member UNC Pembroke received the final first place vote and is tied with the University of Mount Olive in fourth.
The 2020 season was played in the spring, with the Tornado dropping two of their first five matches, but followed that with 14 straight wins, culminating in their first Conference Carolinas Tournament championship. King fell to North Greenville early in the season but avenged that loss with a 3-2 come-from-behind win in the conference title game.
The 14-match winning streak is the second-longest in the NCAA-era, following a 19-match streak in 2013. Over the last two years, King is 20-0 at home and the Tornado have won their last 21 matches in the Student Center Complex dating back to the 2018 season.
King opens the 2021 season on Sept. 3 at UVA Wise before hosting a tournament in the Student Center Complex on September 10-11.
