ST. LOUIS – The Lions (14-2, 6-0 AMC) scored five runs in the eighth and ninth innings to win game three 7-2 and sweep Harris-Stowe (9-15, 0-6 AMC) in Sunday’s solo contest.
The Hornets came out swinging, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, But as the Lions have done so well already this season, they were able to grind their way back into the game with a run in the fourth inning when Dom Pisano hit a one-out double and was brought in by Cody McSwain who hit a double of his own.
They tied the game in the sixth inning when Pisano hit a solo shot, is third of the season and second of the series.
In the eighth inning, Bryce Lester led the inning off with a double and later scored on a walk by Will McCall. Pisano got his second RBI of the game when he brought in Isaac Howeth on a sacrifice fly, and Hunter Beecham scored the third run of the inning on an error, giving the Lions the 5-2 lead.
They would add two more in the ninth to put the game out of reach when Brady Harris hit an RBI triple, scoring Christian Busby. Harris was later brought in on a sacrifice fly by Lester.
Jacob Sawyers got the start on the mound and struck out 11 batters in six and one-third innings pitched. Jack Christian came on in relief and earned the win after throwing one and two-thirds of an inning. Landon Sewell finished things out in the ninth.
The Lions will travel to Bethel to take on the Wildcats in a double-header on Tuesday. Game one is set for 2 p.m.
