ST. LOUIS — The Freed-Hardeman University volleyball team (3-0) won two matches against former American Midwest Conference foes Central Baptist College (4-4) and Health Sciences and Pharmacy (1-4).

The Lady Lions started the day against Central Baptist. The team would win the first two sets 26-24 and 25-22 before dropping the next two, as the Mustangs would force a decisive fifth set. The Lady Lions would regroup and find their groove and win the fifth set 15-6 for the win.

Kacey Donegan led the way for the Lady Lions on the offensive attack, as she notched 16 kills in the win. Ashlynne Clift added 14 kills of her own, and freshman Gabby Rodriguez put together a 12-kill performance for the Lady Lions. Allie Humphry put together another stellar performance, as she dished out 23 assists, and Emma Self had 22 assists of her own. Reilly Fulton anchored the team defensively with 24 digs in the contest.

In game two for the team against the Eutectics, the Lady Lions earned the win in four sets. The Lady Lions would again take the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23 before the Eutectics would respond and force a fourth set. In the fourth set, the Lady Lions would seal the victory with a 25-15 win.

Donegan again led the way for the team offensively with 14 kills and added 10 digs for the double-double performance. Clift toted a 12-kill performance as well, and Self and Humphry would again shine in the assist column as Self led the way with 22, and Humphry followed with 17. Fulton again made her presence known defensively as she posted an 18 dig performance in the win.

Saturday’s two wins give the Lady Lions a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend. The Lady Lions have a short break before their home opener against Blue Mountain College on September 29 at the Brewer Sports Center.
