HENDERSON – The Freed-Hardeman Athletic Department and Lady Lions basketball program announced the addition of Abby Stutts as the assistant coach of the Lady Lions on Tuesday afternoon.

“I am so thankful for the opportunity to become the Lady Lions assistant coach,” Stutts said. “I would like to thank coach Epperson, Mike McCutchen and president David Shannon for this opportunity. The Lady Lions have established a strong program, and I look forward to helping continue that tradition.

“I love Freed-Hardeman and the Christian values it upholds. I am so excited to be a part of the Freed-Hardeman family.”

Stutts has coaching experience in both basketball and volleyball since 2016 at Lexington High School and Jr. High in Alabama. She was the head varsity coach this past season and was the assistant varsity coach and the head coach of the junior varsity and junior high teams from 2016 to 2019 where her teams made two sub-region appearances. She also coached AAU basketball in 2016.

She graduated from Mars Hill Bible School in 2016 where she was All-State and All-Area, as well as the MVP in 2016. She holds the single-season total 3-pointers record at Mars Hill and is No. 2 all time in 3-pointers made at Mars Hill. She is fourth all-time in boys’ and girls’ combined at Mars Hill from behind the arc. On the volleyball court, she was All-Area and MVP in 2016.

“Abby is a great addition to the Lady Lion family,” first-year head coach Joshua Epperson said. “Abby loves FHU, has a love for the game of basketball, a desire to learn and is a rising star in the coaching world with head high school coaching experience already. We are ecstatic to have a person of such high character be a part of our program.”

Stutts graduated from the University of North Alabama in December of 2019 with a degree in Elementary Education. She is the sister of FHU head men’s basketball coach Drew Stutts and the daughter of Miles and Carla Stutts.
